SKIN MediSpa now offers the latest and most effective laser treatment available for the removal of unwanted tattoos. Our Q Switched Nd:YAG laser has been developed to target the various degrees of pigment found in tattoos for more effective results than what was possible from older technologies of the past.

SKIN's Q-Switched ND:Yag Laser emits powerful beams of light, designed to be absorbed specifically by the particles of pigment or ink in the skin. Certain colors of light are absorbed by specific pigments in the tattoo. The pigment is then shattered into tiny fragments which are absorbed by your body naturally. The color fades over a few weeks.

Lasers may be used on professional, amateur, cosmetic, medicinal, and traumatic tattoos. The different colors present in the tattoos may respond differently to laser tattoo removal. Anyone with an undesired tattoo is a candidate for laser tattoo removal. Most tattoo colors can be eliminated or lightened to a large degree.

What are the treatments like? Are they painful?

The treatment area is cleansed and photographed. As the laser handpiece glides over the treatment area, t he laser pulses are fired very rapidly and a stinging sensation is felt. Clients often report the sensation to be similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Some areas are more sensitive to treatment than other areas. An anaesthetic cream can be applied before the treatment to numb the area. An ointment is applied following the treatment to keep the area moist and then it is covered with a protective dressing. Occasionally, redness, mild swelling, tenderness, crusting, a sunburned sensation, or itching may be noticed immediately following treatment.

How many treatments are necessary?

The number of treatments required depends on the colour, size, location and depth of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos usually require 3 to 6 treatments and professional tattoos may need 6 to 12 treatments. Treatments are usually performed 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow your system to remove the maximum amount of pigment between sessions. Tattoo lightening may continue for several months after the last treatment session. Amateur black tattoos typically respond better than professional tattoos.

What type of post-treatment care is necessary?

An antibacterial ointment and a dressing will be applied to the area. The treated area should be kept clean with continued application of the ointment. A shower can be taken the next day, although the treated area should not be scrubbed. To increase the benefits of this procedure and avoid complications, you should strictly avoid sun exposure and tanning prior to and during the treatment period.
