Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a sclerosing solution into the veins which causes them to collapse and fade from view. A sclerotherapy treatment session usually lasts between 15 and 45 minutes and typically, more than one session is required.
Note that OHIP does not currently cover treatment of veins that are less than 5mm in diameter and are not symptomatic as treatment of these are considered cosmetic and not "medically necessary". SKIN currently treats "cosmetic veins" only.
Who is a good candidate for Sclerotherapy?
Women and men of any age are good candidates for sclerotherapy, however, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may be advised to postpone your treatments.
